Thursday, April 20, 2017. It was Senior night at Spain Park High School for the Jaguars Lacrosse Team. The 2017 Seniors were introduced prior to the game along with their families; Trevor Kulkis, Ryan Shea, Griffin Monk, Tim OShea and Troy Bemis. In a thrilling game, the Spain Park Boys Lacrosse team lead by the seniors defeated the Mountain Brook Spartans in sudden death overtime. This was the first loss of the season for the Spartans. The seniors, lead by Ryan Shea with 5 goals combined for a total of 10 of the 12 goals scored in the game. Troy Bemis added his hat trick with 3 goals followed by Corley, Kulkis, Monk and Wilson with 1 goal each. Spain Park had to battle throughout the game and did not take the overall lead until the 4 minute mark of the fourth quarter. From that point on, each team traded goals until Mountain Brook tied the game 11 to 11 with 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Despite a couple of strategic time outs by Mountain Brook in the waning seconds of the game, Spain Parks defense held strong lead by sophomore goalie Matt Manahan. The four minute sudden death period started with a Mountain Brook possession and again the Jaguar defense held firm. On the turnover, Spain Parks Ryan Shea scored the winning goal at the 2 minute mark of overtime giving the Jaguars their tenth win of the season. Spain Park is now 10-3 on the season and 7-3 in conference play and currently ranked number 5 in area standings. Spain Parks next game is Saturday versus Huntsville High School at 11am in Huntsville.
