The Spain Park Boys Golf team won the Fairhope Invitational championship to start the 2018 season. The tournament field consisted of 19 teams, including several defending state champions and some of the top individual golfers in the state. The Jags battled through windy conditions to post rounds of 295 & 299. The 2-day total of 594 was 4 shots better than 2nd place Mtn. Brook.
Senior Ethan Hagood won low medalist honors posting rounds of 69-73. His 2-day total of 2-under par, 142, was 1 shot better than the 143 posted by Mtn. Brook’s William Wann. In round 1, Hagood holed-out from 91 yards on the 15th hole to get to 2-under for his round. He then finished the round with a birdie on 18 to card his first round in the 60’s during his high school career. The individual win was also the first of his high school career.
8th grader Nick Dunlap carded rounds of 74-71–145 to finish 5th and earn a spot on the all tournament team. Dunlap recorded 4 birdies in 9 holes in round 1, and an eagle and 2 birdies in 10 holes in round 2.
Senior Carter Goodwin finished 10th individually, shooting 77-74–151 and Junior Matt Stuart finished 1 shot back in 11th place, carding rounds of 77-75–152.
The Jags will go to Montgomery on Monday & Tuesday to compete in the Blue-Gray High School Invitational at Wynlakes Country Club, followed by the Joe King Memorial at Auburn University Club on March 2-3.
