The Alabama Golf Association named Senior Ethan Hagood the 2017 Junior Boys Player of the Year. The award was announced in January and Hagood was recognized at the AGA banquet on Saturday.

Ethan Hagood of Birmingham, a senior at Spain Park High School, claims the inaugural Alabama State Junior Boys Player of the Year honor. Hagood’s 2017 season was highlighted by winning the Southern Junior Championship held at Willow Point Golf & Country Club, where he birdied his last five holes, including all three playoff holes for the victory. He finished 3rd at the Alabama Boys State Junior Championship at Goose Pond Colony Resort, won multiple Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) events, and totaled a 3-0 record as a member of Team Alabama that won the Southern Junior Cup played in Oxford, MS. Hagood has signed to play collegiate golf at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Hagood has continued his successful play into the 2018 season. He began the season leading the Jags to the Fairhope Invitation team championship at Steelwood Country Club and won low medalist honors, firing rounds of 69-73 (2-under par). Over the weekend, Hagood finished runner-up to teammate Nick Dunlap at the Joe King Memorial at the Auburn University Club, carding a 1st round of 74 and a bogey-free 66 in round 2. His 2 day total of 4-under par was 2 shots behind Dunlap’s 6-under par finish. He leads the team with a 70.5 stroke average.
