Boys Varsity Soccer · Varsity Boys Soccer beats Thompson in Metro Tournament Opener

The varsity boys won the first group game in the Birmingham Metro Soccer Tournament last night in a 2-0 victory over Thompson HS. The first goal came in the 23rd minute when Reece Eberhardt laid a pass off to sophomore Sam Marino for a first touch shot in the corner of the net for an early lead. Five minutes later the Jags added to the lead when Logan Bradley forced a turnover in the Thompson defending area of the field which fell to teammate Diego Aguirre. The junior hammered a shot from 25 yards away which found the back of the net. Both goals for Marino and Aguirre were their first scores in their varsity careers. After securing the lead Jags defended stoutly and preserved the shutout for the win. MJ Dimbo made 5 saves in goal and worked well with his backline and midfielders to keep Thompson from scoring. The Jags next game is tonight at 7:30pm vs Chelsea HS in group play of the Metro Tournament.
