The Jags added to their winning ways tonight in defeating Chelsea HS 4-1 in the second round robin game of the Metro League Soccer Tournament. The Jags quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute when Reece Eberhardt found Brooks Rice at the top of the box during the run of play. Rice navigated his way through the box and hammered a line drive shot to the opposite post to start the scoring. Chelsea did not wait long to tie the score 1-1 when Michael Lando placed a free kick from 20 yards out into the low corner of the net. The game see-sawed back and forth between the Jags and Hornets til the 23rd minute of the first half, when Reece Eberhardt won a corner kick for the Jags. Rice served a ball into the penalty area which was deflected out to Sam Marino, who quickly fired into the back of the net with his left foot. That was the second goal in consecutive days for the sophomore. The game remained tied til early in the second half when senior Brooks Rice pushed the lead to 3-1. Freshman Logan Edwards won the ball in midfield for the Jags and quickly found Eberhardt. The senior then switched the ball to Rice, who touch it inside and fired into the back of the net from outside the penalty area. Rice and Eberhardt were not finished combining on the night when, with seven minutes left in the game, Rice received a pass from Edwards and needled a pass to Eberhardt behind the Chelsea backline. The senior finished the scoring for the night by placing the ball behind the keeper for the final goal. Rice finished the night with 2 goals and 1 assists and Eberhardt added 1 goal and 2 assists. Sophomore MJ Dimbo was in goal as the goalkeeper for the Jags and made 5 saves to get his second win of the season. The next game for the Jags is tomorrow night at Hoover HS at 7pm.
