Jaguars News · Boys Soccer Win Home Opener 2-0

After a successful tournament over the weekend the Jags hosted a familiar foe on Tuesday night for its home opener. Former area rival Mountain Brook HS visited SPHS to renew the competitive series between the two schools. It was a competitive game and felt like past area matches with both teams getting scoring chances. Gradually through the first half the Jags controlled the majority of possession and broke through in the 13th minute of the game when Kaleb Jowers scooped up a loose ball in the Mountain Brook half and was able to find Logan Edwards on the back post, who volleyed home a shot past the Mountain Brook goal keeper into the net for a 1-0 lead. The scored remained the same until 15 minutes into the second half when Alan Melendez pounced on a loose ball in the goal area off a free kick from Anderson Ivey to double the lead. This score held this way til the end giving the Jags a 3-0-1 start to the season. Chase Tilashalski was in goal for the win and recorded his second shutout of the season. The Jags next play at home on Friday night at 6pm at Spain Park HS vs Thompson High School. Tickets are still available and must be purchased through Come out this Friday to cheer your Jags.
